What is the difference between the different pallet materials in Barcelona?

There are six types of pallets in Barcelona if we classify them according to the functionality of the material with which they are made. In this way, we find the best known and most used, wooden pallets, however, there are also those made of wood fiber, cardboard, plastic or expanded polystyrene pallets and, finally, those made of metal. All these types of pallets in Barcelona They are designed to perform different functions.

The ideal choice of material should be developed taking into account the load that will move each type of pallet in Barcelona. This also depends on the weight of the composition, the more weight it has, the more resistance the pallet shows. However, there are certain materials such as fiber or polystyrene that were created to be highly efficient in this sense.

Types of materials most used in pallets in Barcelona

The construction of pallets in Barcelona, part of three families of materials, wood, cardboard and plastic. However, specifically, you can find six different types of pallets on the market.

Wooden pallets occupy an important part of the market and are the most used due to the interaction between resistance, reliability and cost that they provide.

If wooden pallets are to be used for export, they need to be treated to make them suitable for this transport.

Wood fiber pallets are born as an ecological and lighter choice in relation to the previous ones. They remain produced from wood chips and amino resins, which allows them to be recycled.

They are used for export because their structure is approved according to NIMF-15 rules and, in addition, their weight reduces transportation costs. Although it is smaller than a classic wooden pallet, its resistance is quite interesting.

The cardboard pallet stands out for its enormous lightness, and being single-use, it ensures optimal cleaning conditions, which is why it is widely used in the agri-food industry. They do not have nails or screws, because the corrugated cardboard parts remain glued.

There are also plastic pallets that were designed in polyethylene, polypropylene or other high-density compounds. These types of compact plastics offer resistance to stacking and do not require sanitary treatments for export, because they are rot-proof and washable.

Metal pallets are specifically designed to tolerate monumental loads of around 2,000 kg. They can be manufactured with steel or aluminum. They have the highest costs on the market, however, they are very efficient thanks to their long life, and they can also be easily handled thanks to the holes they have.
